Thursday, September 4th, 2008American Bobtail is a feline breed. It is said to resemble the wild Bobcat in its looks.
A domestic cat breed, American Bobtail is rumored to have evolved as
a result of the crossing between a Bobcat and a domestic tabby cat.
This is however, unlikely to be true since offsprings of interspecies
breeding are usually sterile, particularly in case of males. So even
though there was a large male tabby cat found in Arizona in nineteen
sixties who subsequently crossed with a Siamese female and produced the
first recorded American Bobtail kittens, chances are that he was just a
feral cat of domestic origin. This is probable owing to the fact that
the gene leading to the shorter tail is a mutant one and can occur
occasionally in domestic cats. It would take another two decades from
the sixties before serious breeding was to start. No outcrossing was
undertaken and the breed was created through short tailed domestic
cats. Formal recognition came only a few years ago, in the twenty first
century.
The Selkirk Rex Cat
Friday, August 29th, 2008Selkirk Rex is a domestic feline breed. It is quite different in its appearance from other Rex cats.
Selkirk Rex is a feline breed that is quite unique in its
appearance. It is not slight in its physique like other Rex cats nor is
its fur sparse and short. Instead Selkirk Rex is a well built animal
with a very soft and long fur. The coat rather resembles that of the
American Wirehair. The pretty Selkirk is a result of a genetic mutation
and was first seen in late nineteen eighties in United States. It was
born in a litter of otherwise normal domestic cats in Montana. The
unique looking female cat was recognized as having an individual
appearance and bred to a Persian male. Presence of kittens similar in
appearance to their mother in the litter confirmed the dominant nature
of the transformed gene. Thereafter these cats were developed with
intent and are now given the formal status of a distinguished breed in
a number of cat fancier bodies.
About The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Friday, August 29th, 2008The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an affectionate dog under the toy group category. Know more about this breed…
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - the name seems to sound ancient and noble, right? It was centuries ago when Toy Spaniels became popular pets, especially pets of the royal family. A Blenheim-coated spaniel was the children’s pet in the household of Charles I thus named King Charles Spaniel.
The early spaniels had longer, pointier snouts and thinner-boned limbs but as time goes by, breeding with breeds such as Pug and Japanese Chin took place. In 1920, a selective breeding of short-snouted Spaniels took place and the result - a dog that resembled the boyhood pet of Charles II of England (Cavalier King Charles) thus named Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
